MINUS SPACE is honored to present Twenty, a group exhibition celebrating our 20th anniversary. The exhibition has been extended until September 30.
Founded as an online project in August 2003 – the first of its kind in the art world – in the Boerum Hill, Brooklyn apartment of artists / directors Matthew Deleget and Rossana Martinez, MINUS SPACE defined and has advocated for reductive art on the international level for the past two decades.
Reductive art is characterized by its use of plainspoken materials, monochromatic or limited color, geometry and pattern, repetition and seriality, precise craftsmanship, and intellectual rigor. Reductive art is inclusive and pluralistic in its approach, including geographic location, age, gender, medium, artistic strategy, and content of work. This defining language has not changed since the gallery’s inception twenty years ago.
Since 2003, the gallery has resided at 5 separate Brooklyn spaces, including an apartment, artist studio building, two upper floor suites, and finally a ground floor corner retail space in an historic building located in the heart of Dumbo: 251 Pacific Street, Apt. 17 (2003-2006); 98 4th Street, Suite 204 (2006-2011); 111 Front Street, Suite 226 (2011-2014); 111 Front Street, Suite 200 (2014-2015); and 16 Main Street, Suite A (2015-2023).
We have organized, curated, presented, and collaborated on 122 solo and group exhibitions by pioneering emerging and established artists at our Brooklyn gallery, as well as at other collaborating venues, including galleries, museums, non-profits, universities, libraries, and alternative spaces on the national and international levels.
We are truly humbled to have had the opportunity to collaborate with and present the work of more than 197 emerging and established artists and estates working across all visual arts media from around the globe:
